WELCOME TO AIFFA 2019!

 

The ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards is back in 2019. A world-class international film festival to celebrate South-east Asian movies. In its fourth edition, AIFFA will be held over Thursday 25th, Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April 2019 in Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia.

From filmmakers to fans, AIFFA has movie magic and so much more for everyone. This iconic three day , fun-packed event offer visitors the best of ASEAN film screenings, star-gazing and a glitzy Red Carpet Gala Night.

Celebrities at previous AIFFA included Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Michelle Yeoh, Nora Aunor and many other film personalities who came to enjoy the events and the city.

Kuching is the perfect venue for a film festival as it is cultural and serene, picturesque and historic while its people are friendly and warm. Whether you are a local or a visitor, filmmaker or film fan or just want to soak in the atmosphere, mark your calender for AIFFA 2019.

AIFFA is a celebration of our city’s love of the creative arts and is proud to showcase the best in cinematic experiences through this entertaining and inspiring event.

OBJECTIVE:

 

  • The ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards furthers the art and craft of ASEAN filmmaking by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers and all artistes who use the language of film to tell a story.
  • Our films help promote our culture, tradition and heritage towards a convergence of ASEAN.
  • Promote ASEAN films to the international market.
  • Promote collaborations and networking within the ASEAN film industry, and from ASEAN to the world.
  • Promote business opportunities for film distributors and exhibitors (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions).
  • Attract filmmakers to Sarawak for shooting locations.

    Regulations

    All you need to know before submitting your film.

    RULES AND SUBMISSION

      1. The AIFFA 2019 Feature Film Competition (“Festival”) is administered by the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards 2019 (‘the Organizer”) operating through World Communications Network Resources (M) Sdn Bhd.
      2. Individuals (“the Entrants”) wishing to submit work (“film”) for consideration agree to the Festival rules as set forth within this document.
      3. There are NO fees or charges for entering the Festival but ALL costs for production and submission must be borne by the Entrant. There is no promise, stated or implied, or recompense for any monies incurred by the Entrant in the creation of their film.
      4. There are NO fees paid to the Entrants in any respect for the films entered, neither in part or full use of the film.

     


     

    ELIGIBILITY

      1. Films must be produced/directed by filmmakers from the ASEAN countries i.e. citizens or Permanent Resident
      2. To be considered for any and all categories in the Festival, films must have completed principal photography primarily within the ASEAN zone.
      3. Only participants who have ASEAN citizenship or Permanent Resident status may qualify for individual awards.
      4. Only films produced and completed between 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2018 may be submitted.
      5. All entrants guarantee that they are the original content creators and own all rights, clearances, permits and royalties to all materials in their films with proper copyrights obtained. The Festival is neither liable nor responsible for obtaining the said permissions.
      6. It is the sole responsibility of the Entrants to secure all permissions for any materials used in submission to comply with any and all copyright laws. The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any submission found to have violated copyright laws. In the event that any claim, dispute, action or proceeding shall be brought or asserted by any person or entity that alleges that the Films make unauthorized or unlawful use of any copyrighted content or material, the Entrant shall fully indemnify and defend World Communications Network Resources (M) Sdn Bhd, the Festival, and each of their representatives and affiliates from any liability in connection therewith and from any fees and expenses, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees that any of them may incur in connection therewith.
      7. All films must have a minimum running time of 60 minutes, excluding credits.
      8. All films must be subtitled in English and/or dubbed in English.
      9. All films must comply with an equivalent Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) “R” rating or lower. Any film found in violation of this rule can be disqualified.
      10. Films submitted to the AIFFA 2019 Film Festival must be the “final print”. No “work in progress” submissions will be accepted.
      11. The Entrants may be asked to take part in publicity about the Festival and consent to be filmed and recorded where required for the Festival and for the recordings made pursuant to the Festival.
      12. The Festival has the right to use, display, create still images, and even re-cut all entries for private and public screenings, publicity material, and anything deemed relevant to the media.
      13. The organizer reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Festival or provide alternative prizes at any stage at its sole discretion.

     


     

    SUBMISSION

      1. Films can be submitted in either hardcopy or softcopy.
      2. All films must be in PAL format, and submitted in either .mov/mpeg4.
      3. For hardcopy, three (3) copies of your finalized film in DVD must be submitted. Any films submitted in hardcopy must have the accompanying documentation (AIFFA 2019 Film Submission Form). AIFFA is not responsible for loss, damage, or otherwise unreadable submissions. Submitted media will not be returned.
      4. Closing date for submissions is 15 February 2019. Late entries will not be accepted unless special permission is given by the AIFFA Selection Committee. 
      5. For softcopy, you may use Google Drive and email your video link to film@aiffa2019.com. Or 
        upload it on your own server or your own preferred server and email your video link to film@aiffa2019.com.Hardcopy entries must be submitted to:

      6. Only films with Lembaga Penapisan Filem (LPF) aka Malaysian National Censorship Board ratings will be screened in public during the Festival. Acceptance as a finalist in the Festival is also possibly contingent on approval by LPF. Alternatively, if a film is accepted as a Finalist but it does not meet LPF ratings, it will only be available for viewing, without discrimination, by the jury and will not be publicly exhibited during the Festival.
      7. In the event of a disqualification, the Entrants agree that all decisions made by AIFFA and the Organizer are final.
      8. In order to be considered for submission, the AIFFA 2019 Film Submission Form must be filled out and attached.

     


     

    JURY

    1. A Festival jury (four ASEAN and one international member) selected by the Organizer will choose the Festival winners
    2. Finalist films that are eligible and nominated by the Festival Jury for each category of the awards will be announced on the opening night of the Festival.
    3. Winners will be announced at the AIFFA awards ceremony on the final night of the Festival and posted on the website thereafter.
    4. The Entrant agrees that all decisions made by the Jury, Organizer or AIFFA are final.
